This document is a good-faith draft written to describe what OnBetterTerms actually does. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer and is not jurisdiction-specific. It must not be relied upon as a binding agreement until counsel has reviewed it. See docs/LEGAL-REVIEW.md for the outstanding items.
Terms of Service
Version 2025-01-01 · Governing law: [GOVERNING_LAW — attorney review required]
1. What this service is
OnBetterTerms is software that helps people communicate and reflect on their relationships, with assistance from artificial intelligence. It is provided by [LEGAL_ENTITY — the registered entity that provides this service].
2. What this service is not
OnBetterTerms is not psychotherapy, counselling, medical care, mental-health treatment, legal advice, or an emergency service. No professional relationship is created by using it. It does not guarantee any outcome for your relationship. If you need clinical care, consult a licensed professional. If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency number.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to hold an account.
4. Your account
You are responsible for keeping access to your account secure. You may review active sessions and sign out of all devices at any time in Privacy & Security.
5. Your content
You retain ownership of everything you write. You grant us only the limited licence necessary to store, encrypt, process and display it back to you and — for content you explicitly mark shared — to the other members of that space. We do not use your content to train models.
6. Shared spaces
Connecting with another person requires that person to explicitly accept. Content is visible to other members only where you have marked it shared, and only from the time they joined. Disconnecting ends shared visibility going forward and deletes nothing.
7. AI-generated content
Responses are produced by large language models and may be inaccurate. Use judgement. See the AI disclosure.
8. Acceptable use
You may not use OnBetterTerms to harass, threaten, surveil, or coerce anyone, to gain access to another person’s private content, or to circumvent the privacy boundaries described in our privacy documentation.
9. Payment
Paid plans renew automatically until cancelled. Cancelling stops future renewals; access continues to the end of the period already paid for. Prices may change with notice, and an existing subscriber’s contracted price is not changed silently.
10. Safety
We operate the safety processes described in the safety policy. Those processes are limited, imperfect, and are not a substitute for emergency services.
11. Termination
You may delete your account at any time. We may suspend accounts that violate section 8, particularly where another person’s safety is involved.
12. Disclaimers and liability
[Attorney review required — warranty disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification and dispute-resolution clauses must be drafted for the operating jurisdiction and are deliberately not templated here.]
