About
Why this exists
Most relationships do not end because of one catastrophic event. They erode through hundreds of small conversations that went slightly wrong, and that nobody remembered accurately afterwards.
What we believe
Privacy is the product, not a policy page. People will not write honestly in a space they do not trust. So the strongest privacy level is engineered rather than promised — separate code paths, database-level enforcement, and an automated test suite that plays the role of a determined partner trying to detect hidden entries.
Simplicity is a safety feature. This gets used by people who are upset, tired, or mid-argument. A check-in that takes thirty seconds does not get done on the days it matters. Five seconds does.
Neutrality has a limit. Balanced couples-advice is the right default and the wrong response to someone being harmed. We would rather be wrong about a borderline case than treat coercion as a disagreement.
Do not claim what you cannot do. We are not a crisis service and cannot dispatch help. Saying so plainly is more useful than reassuring language that fails at the worst possible moment.
Patterns beat memory. Nobody can accurately recall how the last three months felt. A quiet record, kept honestly, is worth more than either person’s recollection.
What we are not building
Not a scoring system for your relationship. Not a dashboard that gamifies affection. Not a product that predicts whether you will make it — that number would be false precision about the most important thing in someone’s life. Not an engagement machine; if OnBetterTerms is useful, you should need it less over time, not more.
How it is paid for
By people paying for the AI they use, and by nothing else. There is no advertising, no data sold to anybody, no affiliate arrangement, and no analytics vendor that follows you around the web. Every feature is available without paying — what is metered is model usage, because model usage is what carries a real per-use cost. The reasoning, and the actual numbers, are on the pricing page.
This matters more here than it would elsewhere. A relationship product funded by attention has an incentive to keep you in it; one funded by usage has an incentive to be worth returning to and no incentive at all to manufacture a reason. We would rather be the second thing.
Reaching us
Email reaches a person, not a ticket queue with a bot in front of it. It is not monitored around the clock, and it is not a crisis line — if someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency number.
